We enjoyed a beautiful day today with blue skies and a very pleasant 19 degrees in the spring sunshine – hard to believe that this time last year we were buried under 4 ft snow drifts! We heard the calling of our first curlews of the season as they return to the National Park to breed – which means that the hugely popular “Curlews Return” ale from the Allendale Brewery will shortly be retuning to the drinks menu!! Fingers crossed for more glorious weather this week – perfect for walking and exploring the National Park, and fantastic dark skies too!

It is hard to believe that a year ago today the construction of Layside B & B was just getting underway. With thanks to award-winning local architect Kevin Doonan, the team at KMC Joinery and the brilliant landscape gardener Allie Dale, Layside was created and on a day like today the views are unrivalled.

There are a number of short, medium and long walks to be enjoyed from Layside. On a clear day, even a stroll around the block provides some exhilarating views of the Tyne Valley, Hadrian’s Wall and beyond.

A very Happy New Year from Layside – we look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of Northumberland in 2018.

We also welcome your four-legged friends, and with so many great walks from the doorstep they too can make the most of the stunning countryside, whatever the weather. Our 12 year old black lab proves that he is never too old to have fun in the snow!
